Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to implement GST soonAfter taking oath as the Commerce and Industry Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman made her maiden visit to Tamil Nadu to attend a marathon interactive session with industrialists which had been organised by the industry body FICCI – in Chennai.

 

The industry officials and the Commerce Minister Sitharaman discussed how to implement much-expected Goods and Services Tax (GST) at the earliest. After the meeting, Sitharaman said that the government is making ‘earnest attempts’ for GST implementation.

 

Though Sitharaman said that she will not be able to fix a time-frame for putting GST into effect, she said that it will be made effective as soon as possible.

 

Nirmala Sitharaman will also review Companies Act in relation to laws and policies related to Foreign Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs). She will also check out why some FTAs have not been implemented yet and review whether FTAs are benefitting India or the other parties.
